Laser Cutting Help
« on: June 18, 2013, 09:40:04 AM »
Hi all!  I've got two questions that I was hoping I could get some help on.

The first is pretty straightforward:  I'm designing a device based on an arduino and a shield  (basically, this setup (http://www.sainsmart.com/arduino-compatibles-1/sainsmart-uno-r3-lcd1602-keypad-shield-starter-kit-for-arduino-mega328p-au.html)

I've already got the software figured out, but I want to design an enclosure for it.

I've already bought one of these (http://www.polycase.com/xr-34p) and it fits perfectly.  However, what I want to do is laser etch a new front-panel cover and internal mounting panel out of acryllic for it.

I have no experience with laser cutting, AND (most importantly) I have no access to one...but I want to prototype my panel designs and make sure they fit with the case and the circuit internals.

Would anyone be willing to help me out at FamiLAB to refine my acryllic designs and make and test them on the laser cutter to make sure it fits?

Here's my initial design files: the first two are the things I want etched, and the last one is just my template with the board that I used to make the designs.

Come on out to the lab tonight, it's a member meeting. We'll hook you up.

The laser can only cut a maximum of about 10"x10", but it looks like your parts are all under that size.

If you bring your own material to cut that would be awesome :D, but we should have some spare wood and acrylic around. Avoid PVC-based acryllic and MDF wood.

As a non-member, I don't want to come and interrupt the meeting....  Should I come before?  After?   Who do I ask to see?

If you come before the meeting I will hive you a hand. I just stepped out for a bite, but will be back in 30.

I appreciate it simply7, but I don't think I'll be able to make it before the meeting.    Its a 45 minute drive for me and I just got this.

Hi, I wasn't able to make it out last night before the meeting because I worked late, and after the meeting seemed too late to nag anyone to help me.

However, I'm free tonight, all night from 6 on, so if anyone would be around and willing to meet me, I'd REALLY appreciate it.
