Lets buy a sweet table saw! SawStop!
« on: May 09, 2016, 01:14:00 PM »
So I like working with wood and so do others at the lab. Even if you don't like woodworking but might need to break down a sheet of plastic or plywood or anything really this saw will be a great addition to our space. If you are unaware of what a SawStop table saw is then check out the link below. The saw uses proprietaryflesh detection technology to drop the blade into an aluminum brake to stop it before cutting through your hand, finger, hot dog, etc.  Not everyone is comfortable with using a table saw because of the spinning blade inches from their hands (really should be using a push stick or block but we can talk later) as well as people like not paying thousands in medical bills should they have an accident with the table saw. Which according to OSHA is one of the most dangerous tools in a shop because of the number of reported incidents with a table saw. Regular table saws are safe and have been in use for many years, I myself have used a regular table saw from time to time but have never been truly comfortable using it.
[Blade brake technology in action]

So, now that I have scared the crap out of you from ever using a table saw again lets talk about the benefits!

Goal: $2800
[Price plus tax and shipping]

1.75 HP Professional Cabinet Saw with T-Glide Fence

1) high quality engineering (not sketchy!)
2) large work area
3) accurate fence system
4) warranty!
5) safe

With a cabinet saw you will get clean and accurate cuts every time you use it. From cross cuts, rip cuts, dados (requires dado blade insert and brake), etc etc.

why this particular model?

The entry level / contractor level does not come with cast iron table wings or adequate dust collection. Plus upgrading it later on is a lower cost on the cabinet saw.  I could wax eloquently about the differences in a cabinet saw and contractor saw but I wont. If you're interested in the particulars visit the sawstop website and poke around.

I believe in you all!!! I will start the ball and probably put a little in every week.
