Spam Prevention
« on: March 27, 2012, 08:40:54 AM »
We had a spam outbreak on the forum this morning. I deleted the offending account and topics. To prevent further spam, I've enabled verification for all users under 3 posts. Email activation is also on, but has been on for awhile. If you see any additional spam or offensive material, please report it.

Thanks,
- Bill

As an admin of voicechatter.net/org forums, I found one of the more effective ways was on the signup page, to enable a custom field with a set of human readable instructions (not even random).

For that particular forum, this is what I put as the "registration confirmation" question:

"If you are not a bot, enter the word 'anything' in the answer box."

That stopped 99% of the spam registrations...lol

I think f00bard turned that on after we read that post. Not sure if the question is general knowledge enough though.
