A bunch of us at the lab were talking about the possibility of getting speakers to come to the lab, or just awesome hackers that we'd like to hang out with.  These don't even have to be higher profile people or anything, just people we respect and would like to emulate a little.  We also talked about kind of just having impromptu hacking sessions with them.

What would be some good people to bring out?  I suggested some of the 3D printing community like Triffid_hunter, Whosawhatsis, Nophead (and dan then dubbed me 3d printer ambassador with a 1x2), but what other interesting people could we bring to the lab?

Or maybe the opposite.  Maybe we could send Dan/Mack/Ian to some of the bigger hackerspaces for a visit, in order to gather some of their culture and bring it back with us.  We could send them to Null Space Labs, Heatsync, NY Resistor, etc.

I like the concept. I'd probably start with getting local people of interest out to speak at the beginning of an Open House or other event. We did this once with Johnny Diggz of Geeks without Bounds and it was pretty cool. Once we get the format down we can work to invite others - lots of people like to vacation in Orlando / come here for work conferences - just a matter of letting them know we'd like to have them...

Oh, and we have Mitch Altman in town for Orlando Mini Maker Faire - and I suspect Dave will have him out to the lab that weekend - so maybe we've already started! :)

Mack and I briefly discussed "5 minutes of fame" or something to that effect. Essentially, short, lightning talks like Bar Camp or Pechakuc-wha-tever it was. :) I think that would be cool to do once a month, or bi-monthly.

Slight PSA: OWASP Q2 meeting had some awesome talks. Android app decompilation and security testing ftw.
