FamiLAN Party!
« on: May 08, 2014, 03:30:37 PM »
Come around for the awesome May Familab Lan party this Saturday, open to all members and nonmemebrs! (5/10/2014)

Important details: Please RSVP on the Eventbrite page so we can get an idea of how many people will be attending!

What:
A LAN party is a temporary gathering of people with computers or compatible game consoles, between which they establish a local area network (LAN), primarily for the purpose of playing multiplayer video games. Due to the lack of notice, we'll focus on computer gaming for this LAN party. We'll attempt to play multiplayer games, including (but not limited to):
- Xonotic  (Windows, Mac, Linux)
- Tribes Ascend (Windows)
- Open RA (Windows, Mac, Debian/Ubuntu, Fedora/OpenSUS, Arch Linux)
- 0AD (Windows, Mac, Linux)
- Artemis (Windows)

Other possibilities include:
- WARSOW (Windows, Mac, Linux)
- Team Fortress 2 (Via Steam) (Windows, Mac, Linux)
- Nexuiz (Windows, Mac, Linux/GNU, FreeBSD)
- Alien Swarm (Via Steam) (Windows)

- Whatever people suggest. The steam forums have a running list of the free games available on Steam, so if the games above don't cut it, we can switch to a new one fairly easily
- I'll try to download and store the various installers/source codes for the games listed above along with anything else people recommend or I find.  :)

When:
12:00PM Saturday to 12:00PM Sunday. We'll play it by ear. Sunday is Mother's Day, so if people have to leave early or come late, it's no problem.

Why:
Because doesn't everyone want to enjoy some fun games, seeing who is the best fragger in all the land?

Where:
FamiLAB Conference Area!

What to Bring:
- Your Laptop!
or
- Your Desktop+Monitor+Assortment of cables/electronics!

- Please tote along an ethernet/LAN Cable. There are cables around the lab that can be used, but to ensure that everyone can get connected, it'd be safer to have it and not need it.

Who to Bring:
Yourself and any friends who may want to join in on the fun. However, please have them RSVP via the Eventbrite page linked above.

Additional Details:

- To keep track of everyone's belongings, we'll use blue tape+marker to mark everyone's cables.

Anyway, come around if you get the chance or if you spontaneously find the need to relieve some stress! The next LAN party will (hopefully) be planned well in advance, so don't worry if you can't make this one!  :D
