FIRST robotics
« on: January 03, 2013, 01:47:28 AM »
Hi all,

I believe you guys mentor a a US FIRST robotics team/club/school somewhere in your area.  Still doing that this year?  Effective this year, I have a new mentee team -- Trinity Prep High School in Winter Park.

The fun begins again.  Good luck!

Cheers,
-Neil.

Awesome! We've offered help to Lyman HS, and did some minor 3D printing for them last year. One of the parents / mentors (Wendell) then joined FamiLAB, and was a volunteer at Orlando Mini Maker Faire :)

I hope that as we get the big HAAS mill going, we will be able to help them more...

My CNC mill is having some backlash issues on the X-axis (the axis that I haven't converted to ballscrew yet), but it still works well, so if you need something made let me know.

BTW, what's the issue with the HAAS?  Usually the mechanicals will be fine, but the controllers would be the issue.  If that's your issue, perhaps you could run it off a PC with Mach 3 or EMC, etc.

It needed a good teardown & cleaning which is in progress, and we needed to get power to it, etc. There was mention of an encoder problem when it was given to us, but I don't know if they've gotten far enough to run into that yet...
