Geocaching
« on: March 26, 2012, 11:21:34 AM »
Who else is into Geocaching?
(Geocaching is a real-world outdoor treasure hunting game. Players try to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, using GPS-enabled devices and then share their experiences online.)

My kids and I have been into it off & on for a long time, mostly in the Daytona area but I recently moved to east Orlando and I've been wanting to get back into it.  We are trying to plan our first hide soon, which got me to thinkin'... I'll bet that with this group of people FamiLAB could set out some pretty ingenious caches! 8)

I did one or two, but never really got into it. I'd like to get back into the sport, but with a few more people. I know someone (Corq, Chorca, Mack?) were building a FamiLAB geocache, but not sure where that stands.

I used to geocache hard-core!  I was just in HobbyTown yesterday (melbourne) and they had a geocaching section.

I totally do that. I'm Chorca on geocaching.com, and have a lot of finds in the area. FamiLAB used to have a geocache that you could get upon visiting the lab, perhaps we should set it back up again, now that we're in a different location (and can recreate it)? I'd be down for heading up the project.

Geohashing (http://wiki.xkcd.com/geohashing/Main_Page) complements geocaching nicely.

It's an upcoming girl scout badge for us, so I will be learning.

I would be interested in going along with a geocaching adventure party. Some members have talked about doing a photography walk around, I would think the two activities would go well together. Do you typically go on foot to find these caches?
