In need of Laser Cutter
« on: November 20, 2015, 09:22:48 AM »
I wasn't sure where to ask this but here we go...

I am in need of a laser cutter to test cut an idea out of wood and then possibly do a small batch if all turns out well. I am not currently a member of FamiLab yet, but was curious if anyone has access to a laser cutter outside of FamiLab? I would like to become a member but I am in need of a laser sooner than I would be able to go through the membership process. Any ideas would be helpful, thank you!

You might try Sunshine Labs, in the same building we're in, but behind us: http://www.sunshinelabs.com/

We're not an open shop with public use laser hours, like Sunshine labs is, but there's another way...

If you want to bring your design and make friends on an open night, like any Tuesday (especially open house night) there's a chance you'll find someone down to collaborate and show you how the machine works. Before people are full members, they're prospective members. That "yet" in your post makes me think you're eyeing the space for membership, and I'd love to have you out to get a feel for what we're about.
I like colors.

Thank you for your replies, VERY helpful!

My wife and I did come to the last open house and we were very impressed with the accommodations and even got stuck in an awesome conversation about a vacuum form build.

I will definitely check out Sunshine Labs, however I really like the community and idea of FamiLab.

I will drop by this Tuesday with my design and to see if anyone is around to show off the laser cutter.

Thanks again for the help.
