While I was on Maui for vacation, Adam and I visited the Maui Makers... reminded me of FamiLAB in the "Old days" - like March of 2011
8-10 regulars, they started in a container (first one there ran the extension cord over to a building to get power!), and now they have 1500 sq feet from the Hawaii Dept of Education, but lots of rules on use and the space needs some rehab.
The night we were there, they were working with resin (like what you'd use with fiberglass) to make planters by putting the resin over balloons. There was some spontaneous lock-picking discussion, and you can see Adam trying his hand at it in the pictures. (Mental note, have "ethics of lockpicking" conversation with Adam soon!)
It was a fun night, I met some great people (if you are on the hackerspaces.org list, you've likely seen emails from Jerry Isdale), and I got my hackerspace passport stamped. Not bad for our last night in Maui...
