Book Scanner
« on: March 20, 2012, 07:01:02 AM »
We've talked about it a few times, even met and talked with Dan Reetz from http://www.diybookscanner.org/. Mike Bakula brought his previously constructed one to the lab. Dave Casey was going to donate cameras, Tom Long brought in a bike handle with brake lever, and IIRC Aaron talked to a charity that needed them for digitizing medical records in Haiti.

Any progress or news?

I was under the impression that the cameras were taken care of. If not, let me know and I will dig a pair up.

I reached out to the charity organization again back in January/February, but never heard back from them. I'm ready to call that project a non-starter, but Mike's scanner would make for a really cool show-and-tell at the Maker Faire.

Hi guys,

I found out about your site through www.diybookscanner.org and have joined familab in hopes of building their latest version. I've spent the past few months thinking it over and am ready to move forward on it.
I have a ton of books that need digitizing and will cover the costs (within reason) if I can get help putting it together. I think public access to book scanning technology is a brilliant idea.

Let me know your thoughts.
