Hello from Miss Kelly's Classroom!
« on: November 15, 2016, 12:21:37 PM »

Dear Maker Friends,
My name is Deirdre Kelly.  I?m a public school teacher in Central Florida.  I teach in K-5 Gifted Education ? a worthy, exciting, demanding, and awesome cause!
With your commitment to developing maker communities, I thought you might like to be among the first invited to participate in our most recent Donors Choose project.
In the past, various individuals and organizations have donated to our classroom (which also houses our Makerspace) to help us purchase technology and materials through Donors Choose, a non-profit and secure donation site for schools.
With the new school year already rolling, we are sending out a new request for support ? a request which will allow us to purchase tablets for coding, technology and robotics tools for elementary learners, electronics tools, and more!    All of the resources we purchase are used, not only in my classes, but also in our weekly Makerspace times for 3rd ? 5th graders.
Project Title:              Tech Tools for Tech Kids!
Link to Donate:     (Will take you to Donors Choose ? security giving site.)
Our Goal:                   $1,790.00
Name of Our Class:  Miss Kelly?s Classes  (K-5 Gifted Education)
How will these materials (or experiences) make a difference in my students' learning and improve their school lives?
Improving the learning lives of my students begins with knowing where they are ? and today?s learners are Tech Kids!  I have experienced, first hand, the enthusiasm and engagement brought to us through the use of technology tools ? and it?s time to take the next step!
Through the generosity of two previous Donors Choose projects, as well as the support of our administration, we have a wonderful collection of classroom technology tools. However, some of our older tools are holding us back.  We?re using donated old iPhones to control our Sphero collection.  We?ll be able to do so much more through the purchase of 5 tablets ? including coding our Spheros using our coding skills!    With the addition of Dot, my primary students will be able to engage in the technology challenge competitions offered through the Wonder Workshop.  Building our littleBits collection means that more students will be able to use them at one time.  Adding to our makerspace library will help me to create projects and spread the word about making and learning!
If you are able to donate, I know my students and I will be so very grateful!    There is an informational flyer attached ? please feel free to share it within your organization and families!
Wishing you continued success,
Miss Deirdre Kelly
