Easy Bake Oven laser cutter
« on: March 20, 2016, 02:06:23 PM »

I built a 4' x 8' 3D CNC laser cutter for a few hundred bucks to cut my lettuce float for my robotic farm.

I thought all the makers of the world would be interested in getting one of their one or more of their own.

It is really 3D not like the 2 axis Glowforge. My machine has 4 axises. 2 conventional x y gantry and a 2 axis/mirror laser head. (I needed to cut tapered holes for the lettuce floats)

While I will be releasing the large format version, I am focused on a $99 to $299 version of just the laser head which is a two axis irror.

I am focused on making it very easy to use, as I want to market this for XMAS to kids. I have most of the basic software and cutting working, so the big challenge will be a low cost filter, exhaust. I was also thinking adding a chlorine gas detector to shut it off as kids would be likely to try and cut lots of stuff.
I will probably make most of it from ceramic or other non-flammable material. Currently using 4000 steps/rev steppers for the mirrors. Looking at cheap dc motors and 12,000 lines per/rev optical encoder or possibly galvos.

Surprisingly, it cut a variety of thin plastics, fabrics, film, card board.

So far the softwarees contours of images, let's you crop out a piece of the image, converts it to vectors for laser control. It also, auto centers the laser and detects the corner of the work pieces to auto-adjust the alignment.

Also, looking to auto focus the laser to get a cleaner cut as the beam travels farther as the angle increases. It currently has a bluetooth, but might add a wifi module instead for high speed controlling.

I am looking for development team members and pre-orders. Let me know what features you'd like to see on the home version as well as the large format CNC cutter. Next we will build a poor man's waterjet CNC and probably a 3D metal printer.

Give me a call to talk.

Peter

Hello Peter,

That's a cool build man! I dig lasers, and I think chamfering the kerf is a cool addition to the market.

I won't be heading to florida soon. But will look into to signing up to your forum.

However, I just contacted 300 makerspaces, so It would be hard to get on all the chat lists.

Could you forward my email to your members to let anyone interested contact me directly.

A famous investor, sent me 4 emails Friday night on this product.
