Added tool: Color Laser Printer
« on: September 23, 2012, 11:52:53 AM »
It became very apparent this week (discussing how to print photos for the big wall of memories) that many of our members don't have easy access to a color printer.

I was at office depot about to spend close to $100 to have them print our nomination ballots and realized they had a network color laser on sale for $179.99 (normally $299!)

Mack and I conferred briefly and decided that a good color laser printer would be a great tool for our members, and so I grabbed it. It got quite a bit of use yesterday cranking out our ballots (thanks pockybum!) and printing photos.

Matt & I were able to install a brother app for our android phones and print directly - I also saw Chorca printing from Ubuntu, so it looks like it is pretty flexible.

Like all tools, please be conscious of your consumable use - thanks :)

As I know, color laser printers use colored toner (dry ink), typically cyan, magenta, yellow, and black (CMYK). The surface with the latent image is exposed to toner, fine particles of dry plastic powder mixed with carbon black or coloring agents. Color printing adds complexity to the printing process because very slight misalignments known as registration errors can occur between printing each color, causing unintended color fringing, blurring, or light/dark streaking along the edges of colored regions.
