Full-sized metal cutting lathe, lead on a possible donation???
« on: November 19, 2013, 05:48:07 PM »
I know of a big Clausing metal-cutting lathe with 13"x40" capability or so.  The motor in it is shot and the ways are slightly worn, but not bad.  I looked at it thinking that I'd throw a geared-down treadmill motor into it and make it work, but lacked the logistics and funds to transport the machine.  The seller is having trouble getting rid of it... I was wondering if a  FamiLAB representative would be interested in contacting him to see if they'd be interested in donating it to FamiLAB?
No promises made here... just a potential lead here is all...

A full-size metal cutting lathe would look pretty awesome next to the HAAS full size milling machine.  :D

Do you know how much it weighs or (even better) have a model number so I can look up specs? Thanks!

I searched all over the machine and couldn't find any model number or serial number on it.  But the Clausing markings are still on it and also on the forward/reverse switch.  The machine is physically 6 feet long, 4 feet tall and 3 feet deep.  It probably weighs around 2500 pounds

I'd love to come take a look at it. When are some good days/times for you/the people that own it. Thanks!

I just got in touch with the seller... he sold it and the buyer is picking it up tomorrow.
Oh well.
I'll continue to keep my eyes open for lathes and other stuff for FamiLAB.
