Grumpy Old Man Pontificates

I am beginning to believe we need to add a rule of 10% of your monthly time spent at Familab be spent in service, cleaning, fixing, etc. We seem to have developed a lot of guests who pay their dues and expect housekeeping services in exchange.

Hey Les, thats the quickest way to kill a thread. No one dares post now for fear that its the equivalent of volunteering.

 I agree with you 10%   ;)

I guess that is the point. I am as lazy as the next guy as long as the next guy is very lazy. I am also prone to run in and do what I need to do or get sidetracked and not do anything to support the lab, but in the long run, I spend more time looking for stuff that used to be right there but someone didn't put it back, I spend more time hunting than doing.

Instead it falls to a half dozen or so who end up spending a lot of time just trying to keep up. At the least those folks need a hearty vote of thanks because it seem to be a losing battle. I was disappointed, but put on notice last week when a valuable member talked about quitting because of just this issue. When they go, what is the point, no tools, no great minds, what will Familab be then?

The peg board wall -- was a HUGE help to limit the time hunting.  Maybe we can learn from that example.

Lazy in your garage is one thing. I know mine is a mess, but at the lab its different. I have seen  projects left on the tables. I'm good with that. Life happens and sometimes you have to take care of other things.

The real problem is the mess that people leave behind when they are done. Since the peg board went up the tools seem to be getting put up most of the time. It was a simple solution  "where do the tools go?" for the arguement "put the tools up when you are done!".  But when there is a garbage can  right next to the table, you can't make it easier than that.

Unless.... We make every tabletop tilt up 45 degrees and dump the contents in a rubbish bin every 45 minutes. You can only delay the tilt by hitting the reset button which will only give you another 45 minutes.

Been awake too long, that almost sounded like a neat project.

To whomever has the rights to do it, please move everything from reply 16 on to a new topic of something like "Grumpy old man pontificates" This discussion has veered from it's original intent.
