New (to us) Oscilloscope on the Electronics Bench
« on: April 11, 2013, 01:10:36 AM »
I didn't get very far on the Craigslist triage (something about a 3D printer,) but I was able to clean up and check out one of the oscilloscopes from the pile.  It was missing the input amplifiers, but as it happens, I have a few from a busted scope that are compatible.  A bit of cleanup, and it works!  I'll need to figure out the best place for it, but it is a bench scope, unless you're into power lifting.

Oh - and for those who are going "why do we even need an oscilloscope?", here's a quick intro.

Oscilloscopes were one of the coolest things us noobs got to play with when we started the lab. Someone brought in an old oscilloscope they weren't very impressed with, and it blew our puny little minds :p.

Maybe someone could man an oscilloscope training demo for open houses :)

Dan B agreed to work on an oscilloscope class - I'm really excited to see it :)

Identifying sources of noise was probably the coolest part. I know we can use them for more useful things, like measuring PWM signals and whatever, but seeing the noise and investigating where it came from was awesome.
