CNC Y axis

OK, so we have a manual process that we used to "SQUARE UP" the Y axis after we use it.
We want to add limit switches  so this process can be automated.

But aren't we fixing the symptom and not the cause?  Why are the two motor/lead screws getting out of synch to begin with.  Is on side not drawing enough current to drive as it should be?

I believe the problem lies more with manual movement of the Y Axis. The motion system is servo based so barring any mechanical slippage in the belts the machine should never cause itself to become out of alignment. However, when the machine is not running all bets are off. If someone bumps the axis or turns one of the pulleys (it is very tempting) then the machine will be out of alignment. Since the encoders in the servos are relative and not absolute it is impossible for the machine to "detect" this misalignment when it powers on. Carefully setting up some limit switches would give us a known, repeatable value to "zero" off of for each side of the axis.
