Arduino Mega issues
« on: August 17, 2012, 04:59:09 PM »
I just bought an arduino mega off of ebay and it came yesterday. it is new and clean and visually sound.

i plugged it into my laptop and it lit up and began running the blink script that comes on it. however, my computer made a funny sound and then told me essentially that it had found the device and didnt know what to do with it.

my old duemilanove works flawlessly every time but the mega wont. i think perhaps it is the secondary MC that handles serial comm. it is supposedly programmed to act like an FTDI chip but i think its not...

any suggestions?

seller had 99.9% good sales so i doubt its his fault.

Post a high res pic of both sides...let's see if it is counterfeit...

Have you installed the Arduino USB drivers? They no longer use the FTDI drivers, instead you need to install the driver in the arduino\drivers folder.

I'm assuming this is windows...how does device manager show the device?

this is literally on the button for file size limit

i have not installed any new driver for it
and im running 7pro

the mega shows up in a group of devices for which windows couldnt install drivers

and i think you may be right about the counterfeiting...

It looks legitimate. Unplug, install the arduino mega windows drivers that come with the IDE (what version IDE are you running?) and then reattach the mega via USB.
