1.3HP, 95VDC, 18A Treadmill motor - powerwheels racer?
« on: June 02, 2012, 07:54:48 PM »
Came off of a treadmill, looks like it might be 3 phase?  How can we test it? -- I have a motor controller but I'm pretty sure it's shot.

1.3HP = 969 watts, so it would be stronger than our current one I believe.  It can withstand up to 130VDC for short bursts of 2.25HP.

IIRC, the official power racers are limited to 36v... my knowledge of electric motors is limited, so no idea what that one would do at 36v.

See, every time I asked about the rules before, everyone was like "NO RULES!"...now suddenly everyone knows this set of rules. :(

The "official" guide is here: http://powerracingseries.org/data/pppwrs-packet.pdf

We did an "exhibition" race, so we weren't 100% by the book, but don't believe anyone exceeded 36v...

Looks like the motor runs GREAT @ 12v from a computer power supply...lol

It's not 3 phase or brushless, it's just a regular 'ol DC motor.  No motor control needed.  Can't wait to hook up 36v to this thing and see how it runs.

If it's 1.3hp @ 95vdc, does that mean it would be roughly 1/3rd of that HP at 1/3rd the voltage? -- it's not as powerful as the motor we had if that's the case (limiting to 36v) but it might be cool for my own personal go-kart :)

In its current state it is FAR more powerful than the motor that's in the car O0

I'd really like to compete in next year's competition. And, I would like to see the gearbox out of a lawnmower/used 4wheeler being used to allow higher speeds, and have more umph off the line.. However, this may be over thinking it.
