Laser Project
« on: March 23, 2014, 10:00:51 PM »
So I've been looking to get my own personal laser cutter for some time. I started looking at the DIY laser  over at http://buildlog.net.  It's an interesting design and I've made some comparisons with Lasersaur and decided to go with this build.

The only problem that I could see was the small cutting area  (almost)12x20, so looking around I found that someone made a parametric model on OpenSCAD and posted it to Thingiverse http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:12864  So with this information I was able to scale the cutting bed up to just over 12x24 and be able to hold a 60w laser tube instead of a 40s.

The frame construction is extruded aluminum, and thanks to a tip from Tony at the lab, I was able to use their first $150 off deal on my order with Misumi.

I'm going to use this post in the forums to document the build process.

Nice, it will be fun to follow the build.  Let me know if I can machine any parts for it.

Atomic prof, the link has a period at the end of it. Remove the period and you'll be fine.
