Elliot's Intro
« on: March 06, 2017, 11:38:32 AM »
Hello Familab! My name is Elliot and I am a biology major, space nerd, and tinkerer; I also will be picking up a minor in chemistry and enjoy physics. I am currently working on a 3D printable device with my old physics professor to facilitate photography through the ocular lens of a microscope with a cell phone. I am also applying for a research grant with my anatomy and physiology professor offered by the U.S. Army's Office of Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs through UCF's Medical School for a prosthetic fin design for amputee's to aid in physical therapy as well as recreational therapy coupled with Allostatic Load research into PTSD. The end goal is to prove the efficacy of recreational therapy and get spearfishing teams of veterans to help cull lionfish and save our reefs while participating in recreational therapy. We are looking for bioengineers if there are any out there! My AP professor is also designing a 3D printable device with movable parts to help teach AP and has also designed and printed a Sodium/Potassium ion pump. I have been working on cars/construction since I could remember and I love the sciences - this place sounds like a dream come true! I plan on being at the Open House tomorrow night to say hello in person and check the lab out, figured I would introduce myself here first. I do know beaker is spelled wrong, the correct spelling was always taken online so I stuck with this one. I do own quite a bit of chemistry glass if anyone needs to borrow: beakers, graduated cylinders, Erlenmeyers, Burette, 100 ml volumetric, Bunsen burner, and a centrifuge that I think is older than I am... a lab at UCF was decommissioned and they were throwing out all the old stuff they didn't need. Looking forward to meeting you all! This is me with one of my idols:

Welcome! I'd definitely recommend hopping on our Slack and joining our DIYbio channel there. And of course we have a space channel, as well. :) I think you'll find yourself in good company with our various flavours of geeks and nerds.

We look forward to meeting you at Open House!
