Hello Familab! My name's Matt.
Bumped into my old friend Dan Burroughs at the Cloak&Blaster one day and he said I should come out and build all the things. He's generously offered to sponsor my membership. Djchateau agrees I would be a valuable asset.
I'm a jack-of-all-trades hobbyist with a passion for science and technology. Now that I've got some free time and cash I want to spend it building and learning again.
My high school electives were Gas Engine Mechanics and Electronics. Ended up dropping Gas Engines for Electronics the following year because I liked it more!
Afterwards I went on to Mid Florida Tech where I became a certified Machinist. Was the most rewarding educational experience of my life.
Off the beaten trail I've dabbled in carpentry, plumbing, chemistry, metal casting, scripting, microcontrollers, model rockets, and have an on-again, off-again romance with microbiology. Even went so far as to make a YouTube channel to share my microscope videos. Behold the majestic bowel movements of the mosquito larvae at 6:16! http://youtu.be/NCFbk0aMUU4?t=6m16s
Some of my past projects include a hovercraft that never got off the ground, a tesla coil that never sparked my interest, a thermostatically controlled spirulina bioreactor that died in the prototyping phase, an electric furnace that went cold and a castable urethane D&D tabletop accessory business that rolled a 1.
My first trip out to Familab was the July 1st open house where I met a few of you and have been back a couple times to hang out and get to the know the community better. I like you guys. You're knowledgeable, friendly, generous, and have some awesome ideas.
