Hello FamiLAB!
« on: September 16, 2015, 02:29:10 PM »
I'm extremely interested in joining up!  I see you guys every year at Maker Faire but for some reason never get in contact afterwords.

Most of my projects have involved music electronics.  I've been working on an ever growing modular synth for the last 7 years, building synths, amps, effects, drum machines, etc for 10 years +.    I'm increasingly interested in microcontrollers.  I've been dealing a lot with PIC's, STM32, and Arduinos already.  I'd be excited to hang around some people who are better with these devices than I am, so I can learn more.  I'd love to teach anyone who's interested what I know as far as synth building goes.

My interests are not just limited to music electronics.   It would probably be easier to list things I'm not interested in.  I'm interested in learning more about programming, 3D printing, and meeting some like minded Electronics DIY people.  I'm also very curious about drones and robots.

Outside of these hobbies I work in IT, play games, read a lot, and brew beer.

I live in Winter Park about 15 minutes from your location.  I'm very interested in seeing the work space, and looking forward to your next open house.  October 6th seems so far away.

Picture of a few of my favorite projects - Sprawling modular synth (minus a few modules I'm rebuilding), x0xb0x, 2 Shruthi's, TTSH Arp2600 Clone.

I'm not sure what you mean by that... Did I commit some sort of community faux pas or say something dumb, or did you mean that in a good way?

He's just awestruck by that amazing synth.  I think a few of us are.  Welcome to the boards!  8) 8) 8) 8)

HA, ok, thanks!   ;D  I got scared for a second and thought I might have come across badly.  Communication skills are not really my strong point.

Now that I've collected my thoughts, I will respond in complete sentences.

This setup looks fantastic! And the fact that you've been collecting for seven years is awesome. I've done a bit of electronic music production, mostly limited to chiptune or 8bit style production. A project I've kept on teh back burner for years is building a homemade synth with the hopes of growing it into a spaghetti patch cabled modular frankenstein if I got hooked. I'd love to sit down with you and just riff about (what little I know about) signals and their modification.

I also work in IT and brew wine of questionable quality.

This thing started as a Simple 3 VCO synth and just kept growing.  I've had to expand the cabinets 3 times now.  I'd love talk synths at some point.

I've wanted to try brewing a wine.  I don't drink as much anymore, so my beer tends to sit in the kegerator too long.  Wine has a longer shelf life.

I'll definitely be at the openhouse on the 6th, so see you there if you're there those nights.

We're out plenty of nights in the interim if you'd like to come out before then. Fridays sometimes have a few members bringing out instruments for tinkering and jam session nights. I'll be out tonight and hopefully next Tusday/Thursday and some hours on the weekend. I'll keep my GameBoy with LSDJ synth cart handy in case you show up :D

That'd be cool.  I'm actually out of town for work all week next week, but next weekend, or sometime the following week I'd definitely be interested in swinging by.  I could bring some of the synth stuff by if you're interested.
