HELLO my name is scott (solidone13)
« on: August 10, 2014, 07:50:35 PM »
hello there i'm scott i am skilled cabinet maker who several years ago started running cnc machinery and for the last 5 years have been doing 3-d modeling in sheet metal and mill-work with solid-edge. I have always had a fascination with machines and how they work. i want to learn more and build and experiment with machines. Plus i would like to see industrial arts back in schools young kids need to know how to build and think.

Hey Scott. Welcome to the forums and the lab. What type of cnc's are you using?  Do you use them for.any 3d designs or just standard cabinets.

i have used multi-cam and morbidelli for standard cabinet work and some other things such as creating tool holder for the multi-cam instead of buying them (much cheaper) along with running the machines i did all the maintenance and trouble shooting and repair when needed.

I would like to learn how to model and do more complex stuff with the machines.

Hey Scott.  I've got a ShopBot PRT Alpha with a vacuum hold down table I built.

I invested in Rhinoceros 3D and RhinoCAM Pro a couple of years ago.  RhinoCAM is essentially Visual-Mill in plug-in form for Rhino.  I've spent the last 10 months or so getting good at the 3D software, but haven't spent much time with the CAD portion yet.  My plan is use the CNC wherever I can in building my electric guitars.   I foresee building vacuum clamping fixtures with recessed mold like cavities to hold my 3D carved parts. Right now I'm helping a fellow builder out with some fretboard design.  To that end we've got some .023" dia bits for carving fretslots on the CNC.  I'll get to try that next week after the kids go back to school.

Hopefully we will get a chance to meet and exchange some ideas.
