Hi Everyone!
« on: February 12, 2014, 12:16:34 AM »
My name is Mariella, I attended the open house this month and can?t wait to take the classes and start building, I?m a visual designer by trade, but I?ve always been curious about the software I use to create my designs.  When I discovered that After Effects expressions were based on JavaScript, I had to learn it. Javascript, lead to CSS which lead to HTML which lead to PHP and MySQL. Now I?m interested in learning more about programming and possibly getting a degree in computer science.

I'm also interested in Robotics and AI. I volunteered recently for a robotics program that taught kids math and programming. it was great to see kids' faces light up when they understood a concept because they could physically see it. It?s more challenging to get that reaction from adults, but not impossible! My dream is to mix art and technology to create immersive experiences to entertain, inspire and educate people of all ages, on all matter of subjects from math to physics to economics.

Also, I think the hacker space is great! You guys have something really special going on here. I'm so glad you're in Orando!! :D

Awesome introduction! You sound pretty well-rounded. Do you have any current projects?

We've got a growing population of people here interested in using technology to delight and entertain.

" My dream is to mix art and technology to create immersive experiences..."

This is always fun and makes art that one bit more interesting. Come, create. I cant wait to see what you have in mind.

What do I have in mind...well, I currently have more ideas than ability to execute. Don't know how or even if I'll get there, but here are some of my inspiration links.

I was reeeeeally hoping you'd seen Unnamed Soundsculpture. I show that to so many people.

Since you enjoy projection mapping, I hope you've seen . I'd also encourage you to check out the collected works of Robert Hodgin, or Flight404.

Also, there are meetups in Orlando called "Processing Orlando" and "Central Florida Projection Mappers". You might want to look into those as well.

Thank you for sharing the other glimpses into your inspiration. Mindtracks and Thought of You definitely brought a tear to my eye.

Hey, that 3D projection stuff is cool. Be warned, if I see you working on it in the lab I'm going to bother you about it  ;D

Welcome!

Pretty cool creative interests you have, and it's great you got to stop by the lab. FamiLAB is a melting pot of all things awesome and you'll fit in perfectly. The project links you shared are awesome, and I especially liked 'Soundsculpture'. It looks like a 'Krakatoa' particle animation, and very well done.

Thanks guys!  Thanks for the links johnbentcope. I'll definitely add them to my inspiration library. Do you posts stuff like that somewhere? For example I have a FB where I collect inspiration links like that https://www.facebook.com/Design9co.   I've heard of "Processing Orlando", but I didn't know about "Central Florida Projection Mappers" Yay! I learned something new already.

@soulsonicforce it's a deal! now I just have to figure out how to make it happen.  :)

@P47 "Krakatoa" is a plugin for 3ds Max right?

Nah. I'm trying to avoid Facebook. If I share too many links like that or post too much it drains me of my productive drive. I'm on a social media cleanse right now to see what I can make and learn.

Are you adept with software like 3ds Max? I've been meaning to learn 3D animation and motion graphics software for a while now. I currently do all 3D and motion 2D work entirely in processing.

I totally understand about social media. Before you know it, hours have gone by.

I haven't done 3D in a while. I've worked with Maya and 3D plugins for After effects in the past though. I switched to Javascript when I started designing for web because movie files with 3D were too large to run on a browser. That's why I want learn processing as well. Maybe we can trade tips!

Yeah! I'm working on some canvas animations as an extension of my processing work! It'd be cool to share knowledge. We occasionally have javascript classes that I bet we'd both learn a lot from.
