Hi I'm Mark / Sarnac
« on: February 11, 2016, 06:10:27 PM »
Greetings wonderfully-strange-people, especially those I met while touring with Daniel on Tuesday ...

I'm Mark Wood, script-crazy sysadmin for a tiny firewall company and idea-creator for things-too-big-for-me-to-build-at-home :)

I also use too many hyphens, parens, and newlines, have too-many-cats, partial-anterograde-amnesia (I *will* forget your name for the first few times ... unless your name IS "Will" then I might remember it ;) (kidding ... that won't help either) ), and an absurd (aspie) obsession with the intersection of robotics, fusion, and socioeconomics ... and as <someone> (sorry, amnesia) I talked to on Tuesday night will attest, I'm a pollyanna about the prospects for the near and mid-term future :) :)

I have built very few of my inventive ideas due to lack of extreme hardware (one needs a military-grade free-electron-laser and an underground water tank on the scale of Niagara Falls ... but should in-[pollyanna]-theory provide 7000x more power than humanity uses planetwide), but I'm looking to build some of the smaller ones ... quidditch with mesh-sphere-quadricopters, a far better wheelchair for my GF, hopefully a scale-model of my supersonic rotorcraft, maybe an Aliens-type-powerloader secondary-exo-frame if my GF gets a CyberDyne HAL-5 exoskeleton, etc

I have a Physics BS, math minor and had barely started my Aerospace Engineering PhD at UF when I had to withdraw for my then-wife's medical issues. I'm hoping that I may go back to do Aerospace (bulk-civilian-VTOL) or fusion-physics.

You're going to fit right in. :D Welcome to the lab, and I hope you get a chance to meet some more of the members soon. I think you'll find we all have ideas sitting on the shelf, and some of them leap off on their own from time to time.

Good, then I can look forward to building an AT-AT that thinks it's a dog :)
