Hope to come tomorrow night
« on: February 03, 2014, 05:12:11 PM »
I am hoping to come by tomorrow night for the open house.

Most of the projects I am interested in working on revolve around building equipment for use for photography and cinematography as well as some gadgets for use in live theatrical productions.

In my job, we do a lot of with embedded computers like Raspberry Pi, Gumstix or Beagle Boards.  I am also interested in some projects involving WiFly modules and ordered got a BlueFruit bluetooth module from Adafruit to try out.

Right now I am primarily interested to learn about using CNC tooling and 3D printing to build some custom pieces.

That's sounds fantastic man! We're mulling about with blueprints for several rooms now, one of which will be a dedicated darkroom. What have you wanted to build in terms of equipment? Experimental developing tech? New kinds of cameras? </photohacking nerd section>

Right now I am working on anything quite so advanced as an experimental camera.  I am mostly interested in camera control rigs like dollies, sliders & jibs and what would be commonly called "Grip" equipment on a movie set.

Some of it is quite simple and basic like frames for holding diffusion material or home made "Apple boxes".  My interest is in making DIY gear that is equal in quality to expensive "pro" gear, but hopefully less expensive.

I am also looking to make DIY lighting fixtures that mimic the functionality of expensive studio lights.

I remember making my own dollys and other camera equipment out of Lego when I was making Lego movies as a kid. I'd love to build some time-lapse rigs or a lab-sized dolly for open houses. Anyways, I'll be at Open House tomorrow night and maybe we can talk camera shop. Look forward to meeting you!
