Greetings fellow tinkerers!
I was the guy in the Minecraft Creeper shirt at the open house today.
I wanted to thank everyone for making my fiance and I feel welcome. What a great place to hang out and learn. I hope to make friends of you all!
Anyway, a short intro about myself:
I was born in Seward Alaska, finished highschool in Anchorage Alaska.
Nearly a year ago I moved to Florida to go to college. I'm living here for a year so I can get the in-state tuition rates.
I'm attending Valencia to take their mechatronics and photonics courses, then probably transferring to UCF afterwards to go for my bachelors.
Initially I wanted to go to college to study programming. I came to realize that I wouldn't be satisfied with just programming, that I had to make something that did something more than crunch numbers. So I went on to learning 3d modeling. I was looking into colleges for that when it dawned on me that it still felt like something was missing. After some time thinking I realized that I had to incorporate my love of computers and technology with the ability to interact with the real world to feel like I was in the perfect profession.
I've always been fascinated by new technologies, and by making old technologies do things they were never intended to do.
Most of my life I've been of the opinion "If you have to do it more than three times, a machine should be doing it for you." There's no reason my toaster shouldn't know to make toast from bread when I put it in, am I right?
Any day in which I don't learn something interesting is a wasted day to me. Just spending a couple of hours with you all made it clear that I have a lot to learn from a lot of different fields, and I couldn't be happier to have found a group to learn from who can speak my language!
