Intro: William "Bill" Keehn
« on: August 05, 2014, 05:32:28 PM »

I've been to three or four open houses over the last couple of years.  Finally decided to get serious about joining.  Hopefully I'll be able to come tonight.  I'm married and have three daughters, 5, 11, and 13.  My two oldest daughters have been to some of the open houses.

My educational background is Computer Science (B.A.) and Electronics Technology (A.A.S.).  Professionally I've done Embedded Systems Work for 20+ years of my career.  I've worked on design of industrial handheld computers, avionics and communications, vital signs monitoring and other medical devices.

Eight years ago I became a stay at home dad and became interested in woodworking.  From there I got interested in building electric guitars.  I've been doing a great deal of learning with my CNC router and 3D modeling software.  I'm also interested in developing some of my guitar hardware ideas and designing some pedals.

It would be hard to put all of my interests in a single post, but I'm definitely interested in LASER cutting, 3D printing, CNC, and experimenting with the latest micro-controller boards.

I look forward to meeting you all.

-Bill

hi,

i made the cigar box electric guitar that is at the space right now. it was a fun project and i am currently collecting parts for another build. i would love to talk with you about your builds and insights to making a good sounding instrument.

also i am glad to see you coming out to the space. i am there usually every Tuesday and one other day during the week. i work till 930 most nights but goto the lab after work and hang out till 1 or 2 some nights. if you want to come by the lab, you can hit me up and i will swing down there if i am free. that way you can get a chance to use the space and meet some more people not on an open house night.

i am sure that there are other members that would gladly do the same thing for you,

i know how to use all the machines you are looking to learn and would love to show you them as well.

welcome to lab life :)

Thanks for the welcome all.  I don't get many chances to socialize with like minded people, so it was fun.

Normally I'm free during the weekdays and some weekends.  Outside of that it can be hard to get away from the family in the evenings.  We live out in horse country and they get just a bit scared when I'm not there :)  My older girls are interested in Familab too, so hopefully I'll have a chance to bring them along.
