I am a student at UCF graduating next year with Mechanical Eng major and computer science and IT minors. I just moved to Orlando from California where I was involved with hacker meetups and fablabs and makerspaces for several years. When I moved here I looked for some but was shocked to find only one
! Thank goodness this one is only 29min's away
I am a natural born tinkerer, I like to build things, fix things, tear old things apart.....you know. I have done tons of projects from robotics stuff to linux software stuff. I was in the cyber security club at Cal Poly and we did lots of fun software hacking and pen testing stuff too (OH! I was excited to see you have a defcon group going too!). I would really like to have access to a space with CNC, lathes, etc for my projects.
I have an ulterior motive...As president of Engineers w/o Borders (EWB) I have been unimpressed with UCF's effort to improve the hands on skills of our engineers. In EWB one of our main goals is to provide the resources for our students to learn the things that any engineer should be able to do from building basic circuits, to lathe work, CNC work, basic carpentry, etc. Having practically been raised in a workshop by DIY people I know how much awesome stuff we can learn in FabLabs and I really want to build a stronger relationship between EWB and Familab. I was talking to your treasurer about possibly having one of a monthly project worksession for our team onsite (like she said some other group does??) after I am checked out with all the the equipment and you guys see I am not an incompetent nut!
I went to the PCB workshop which was a blast!
will be going to open house June 3rd.

been to Familab's PCB workshop!! so now I have a homemade arduino!
I am sure there is more....thats all I can think of for now.
Okay. Drill me if you want.
