Newbie Extraordinaire

Hello everyone! Posting this in the middle of the night, after my man and I crashed while in the works on a H-weeny project. What better way to occupy my time than be on the interwebs?!

We both visited the FamiLab on Saturday as an impromptu thing. We met a gentleman (we share a mutual friend) by the name of David Sikes at Oblivion's Pumpkinfest who told us about it. We thought "Hey this sounds awesome! Let's check this place out and see what's going on!" Being the overly enthusiastic newb-bewbs that we are, we just rolled up all bright eyed and bushy tailed. Thankfully Mr. Rick was there to give us a super cool on-the-fly tour, blow our minds even more, and answer my five million silly questions. He advised us to check out the membership procedures and introduce ourselves on the forums (done! and done! at least on my account ;D).

Admittedly, I don't know too much about the tools you have at your disposal and that feels pretty intimidating. That being said, they all pique my interest in one way or another and the sheer potential of FamiLAB is staggering. Naturally I can see why people want to be apart of this thing. Give me your brain meats!!!

We are definitely planning to show at Tuesday's open house. It will be really exciting to meet the lot of you and get a better sense of how everyone makes use of FamiLAB's amazing resources!

Oh I was there for a small chunk of time on Saturday, and I'm sorry I missed you two!

And if you're intimidated by some of the tools, remember that some of us stick to our laptops or sewing machines or paint brushes. We've got a lot of big tools, but we also like to work on smaller, more traditional things.

I look forward to getting to know you at Open House!
I like colors.

I'm glad you made it down! Rick told me you guys showed, I apparently missed you only by an hour or two. I look forward to seeing you again at open house! If you want to come out and chill anytime before then, feel free to text me at 407.463.2925 to make sure someone will be there :D

Also, don't be intimidated. The tools look scary and amazing because they are...but we have plenty of awesome people who will gladly take the time to show you how to use everything and walk through it with you until you're comfortable.

Did you get to see the ultimaker? ^^

Hey welcome to the forums. I enjoyed giving you guys the tour (Rick is my secret identity).

Hope to see you again at the open house or one of our classes. When you want to come up and hang out again just post here in the forums. We enjoy having guests.

Aww! Perhaps we shall see you this evening at the Open House?! I spied 2 sewing machines in the big open room and I thought they looked rather funny hanging out next to some of the bigger equipment. ;) One of my questions to Rick actually was what the general scope of projects FamiLAB sees. I tend to work on smaller things myself but I am definitely interested in expanding my horizons.

Aww, I'm sorry we missed you too, haha! Apparently the party started right after we vacated. ;) Yes, I am looking forward  to meeting more members at tonight's Open House and getting a better sense of you guys and what you do! Thanks for the encouraging words!! They do look scary and amazing but I am really excited by all the possibilities they present.

I absolutely will!

Whoops, didn't meant to spill the beans on your alter-ego! ;D We will definitely be attending tonight's Open House! We've been talking about it since Saturday, as a matter-of-fact! I hadn't realized you guys had a soldering class that Sat evening. That is something I'd be interested in learning! That and the intro to arduino'ing one!

Not to burst your bubble, but maybe deflate it a bit, our next open house is the 5th of November. This is just a normal lab night tonight. :)  But feel free to come say hi!

Oh whoops! Guess we got a little confused. Thanks for letting me know!! This week is pretty busy with Hween activities so we may wait for the open house still. :)
