Prospective Member: Ben2
« on: October 16, 2013, 02:20:05 PM »
Hello all!  After flying up to NY for the world Maker Faire a few weeks ago, I followed up with a visit to the Orlando Maker Faire just after.  My passion is 3D printing and after seeing so many printers at the the FamiLAB table I knew I had to be a part of the group.  After receiving an invitation to the after-party I met so many "members of my species". Makers!
I'd love to contribute to the group and projects... I can offer to the group a strong background in mathematics, mechanical design, and engineering, a pretty basic understanding of programming and DC electronics, familiarity with manufacturing processes, materials knowledge, and of course my passion for 3d printing.  My greatest weaknesses (opportunities to learn!) are in computers, serial and USB communication, and programming in anything other than C or Visual Basic.
I really look forward to meeting more of you, getting involved, and becoming a member!
Sincerely,
-Ben2  (I'm "Ben number two"... because you already have one member named Ben.  Lol)

Hybridsix:
I'd love to attend the next meeting.  I see there's an open house on the 5th, a board meeting on the 13th, and a member's meeting on the 19th.   The site says the meeting on the 19th is members only.  So I should attend the board meeting on the 13th??  I'm available to attend any event on any of those days btw.

If you have all your paperwork filled out, and you have your two signatures, then its time to come out to the membership meeting (11/19) to introduce yourself to the broader group. Don't let that stop you from hanging out at the public events, though. :)

Ben2 -- Welcome..

Don't let the disgraceful appearance of the lab deter you!  We are trying to ween members from their mothers..  well lets say apron strings.  And instill in them a sense of ownership and pride for the lab.  Which naturally leads to all members continually cleaning, cleaning, sweeping, cleaning, organizing, and in general making things better, while they continue to make their awesome projects.

AtomicProf.  The housekeeping wasn't a turnoff for me, personally, at all.  I personally like the mantra "if you can't find it... then you can't use it" as the Mythbusters always say.  But at the same time I've never been one to shy away from sawdust/ paint/ metal chips/ etc.  I have "dirty fingernails" and I can hang with any crew, regardless..   8)

Ben - was great to chat with you at Miami Mini Maker Faire!

I won't be at the monthly meeting due to a work conference, but I'll email others to ensure you get that sponsorship signature. :)

I've been keeping my eye out for an email whether or not I was successfully voted in as a member, but haven't seen one yet.  Just want to be sure I haven't missed it or something.

Pocky, you had asked me to let you  know if I had received a verdict on the membership.  I don't see anything yet.

Ben - I think there is some confusion - while I wasn't there, I think this month was when you submitted paperwork - that means that the vote for your membership will happen at the next meeting. You are welcome to hang out with us in the interim, sorry for any confusion.

Yep, that'd be the root of my confusion, Lol.  Being a hangaround for a month sounds good to me.
