Rocky is In Da House! (w/lots of pics)
« on: March 09, 2017, 06:19:53 PM »
My name is Rocky, OK not my real name but it's the name I've gone by since I was a kid.  My real name is Rogaciano, but Rocky makes life easier for everybody.  I found out about FamiLAB from MakerFaire at the fairgrounds a few months back.  I visited the space and put membership on my to-do list.

I'm an equipment tech at a semiconductor manufacturer, been doing it on and off since 1994.  My wife and I grew up on the Space Coast, but have been away for 20yrs chasing the dollar.  We moved back to Central Florida in 2013 when my wife decided that she wanted to move back to be closer to family.

I'd like to learn about how to get items and ideas into the digital realm so that they can be manipulated into what I want. I have many projects in the works, I will include pictures of past and current projects.  There are probably a few that I don't even remember.  I'd also like to add TIG welding and CrossStitch to my repertoire.  I hope the links work, I couldn’t remember the code to resize pics in a thread posting.

My hobbies/projects

We love to camp, I built this camper in 2005.  It’s basically a rolling bed, but it has air conditioning and a microwave oven when plugged in to shore power, and a 12V system to run a fan when off the grid.  We’ve camped all over the country in it, from Disney World to Disneyland.  It’s usable but I need to refresh some items in it.

I also love to cook in my Big green Eggs and Dutch Ovens.  After we moved from TX to CO I couldn’t find a decent brisket.  I had to learn how to make my own, sorry but 4 Rivers is just meh to me.

I have a few Old Honda cars that I’ve played with over the years.
Red one 89 Civic Si has a twin cam engine swap, big brakes, and suspension mods.  It was stolen from me and I have to go thru what is missing.  I've owned this car since 1994.
White one 91 CRX Si has less than 125,000miles and is original, needs a clutch and a/c work but I knew the clutch was weak when I bought it in 2010
Blue one 85 CRX Si Bought from the original owner in 2012, drive it to work a few times a month. No a/c but it never had it because it was a CA car.

I’m a Star Wars fan, I saw this fabric and liked it.  I made an Aloha shirt out of it.  It’s a little big on me now.

I’m making TFA armor out of a toy for my niece to wear.  Hopefully I get it done before she outgrows it.

I’ve also been playing with floral arrangements (artificial)

Did I mention that I was a Star Wars fan?  This is an studio scale model of the Millennium Falcon that I’ve yet to start on.  They send parts over the course of 2 years, the last shipment should be next month.  Not having this expense will take care of my FamiLab dues!

I made this bracelet for my wife for our 15th anniversary.  A silver Nickle and Silver Dime polished and stamped with our date.

I also have a couple multirotor aircraft, the hex is in progress but currently backburnered.

I’ve started cycling, I’m in training to do a century ride around September.  I’ve had this bike for 5yrs, but only now have I started riding it.

I want to give one of the bedrooms in our house a Disney Haunted Mansion theme.  I have it planned out in my head, but I need to get the ideas from my head into the digital realm so that I can print, CNC mill, or lase them.  So far I have made the “Donald chair” and a spooky type floral arrangement.  I’ve been collecting small items to go with the theme, but haven’t made major changes to the room.  I want to learn the laser cutter to cut a stencil with the spooky faces emulating the wallpaper.  I also want to make the heads on top of the wainscoting to go around the room similar to the waiting area in the ride.  Finally I want to make a bed headboard/footboard reminiscent of the doombuggy that you ride in.

This is my ongoing and most important project, ME! I had bariatric surgery last year and so far lost 105lbs since 11/2015.  Surgery is an aid there is still a lot of work involved to be successful.  I still have to workout 6 days a week (sometimes twice in a day) and eat right.

I think I saw that studio scale falcon while I was at Star Wars Celebration Europe. I thought that was U.K. Market only??

I also love those older si's. When I was $15 my mom refused to let me buy an '89 si hatch from our neighbor for $500.  It was in perfect shape. I wish I could have gotten it.

If you like Star Wars lmk. I've got an R2 build in progress and have made a ShoreTrooper and SandTrooper that are 501st approved.

Initially the DeAg Falcon was for UK only, but after a few months, they released it to the US.  The guys in the UK are already finishing theirs, I still have a couple months to go before I get all the pieces.  I was going to repaint it and add weathering but I think I'll just build it straight out of the box, otherwise it will turn into another unfinished project.

I was contemplating an Astromech build, but the expense kinda scared me away.  I may revisit it in the future, having access to a 3D printer might change my mind though.  Either way, I'd love to learn more about it.  From what I was told, it can be as expensive as you make it out to be, or as budget friendly as you make it to be.

I was talking to a mom at a child's birthday party last week.  I was wearing my Rebel challenge shirt as we had come directly from cycling club.  She showed me pictures of her husband in Scarif Trooper armor, apparently he has 4 suits of armor; the Scarif trooper, TFA, Clone trooper, and is working on TK armor.  Yes he is in 501st.

Hope to see you around!

Who was this person you spoke to? There are not many ShoreTrooper in FL.

My R2 is all styrene. From the dome down with 3D printed parts. He will be maybe 40 lbs when done and under $1000.  I've got most of the parts ready to cut on our Cnc at MakerFX (new space we are spinning up in south Orlando).  You can find these plans online and buy them cut or the guy is nice enough to share his DWG's that are to scale. You just have to do a good amount of work cleaning them up for cutting.

That's what I said, and she said that he was the only Captain.  He liked it besauce it had more colors.  I didn't get her (or his) name though.

I think I have them saved on my computer somewhere.  I was thinking about using a Senna frame.
