New guy here, Dave Sharp. I was at the Open House the other day but didn't meet many people, it seemed pretty lively and I couldn't hang around for long. I moved to Orlando a few weeks ago from the Philadelphia area (New Jersey) where I had been for the last 9 years. I had been a member of Hive76, a makerspace in Philly. I had a lot more work space at my place in New Jersey than I do at my rental here unfortunately. I had a little CNC micro mill and a decent-sized 9"x48" South Bend lathe, along with a bunch of more common tools. I had to sell most of the good stuff for the move, hopefully I'll be able to replace some of them.
I'm sure like a lot of people here, I don't consider myself an expert at anything but I know enough to be dangerous in a lot of ways. I do PCB design / layout / population (I've made PCBs myself a number of ways but at this point I send most things out), microcontrollers (AVR, AVR32, some Gumstix, PIC years ago, etc), 3D CAD (SolidWorks, for work), etc. I've got my Level 3 certification in High-Power Rocketry (TRA), but I haven't been able to do anything with rockets in a long time. I don't have the time or energy that I used to, being a father to a 2-year-old turns out to really take a lot of both! She's pretty awesome though so I can't complain.
In New Jersey at work I ran a Dimension 3D printer, a laser cutter, and a Tormach CNC mill. I'm telecommuting now so I don't have the easy access to those toys that I used to, but I might be able to help out with some things.
I designed the Hive76 Milled Bolt, a pinchwheel for some designs of RepRap 3D printers that replaces the hobbed bolts that a lot of people use with much more positive grip. I don't have a 3D printer of my own but I'm told that it is pretty effective, and I think I've sold about 700 of them or so at this point.
Here's my YouTube channel if anyone is interested. There's all sorts of random stuff but if you're into stereograms there are some cool ones.http://www.youtube.com/user/DaveTheYellowDart
I'm looking forward to meeting up with like-minded people and working on cool projects!
