CuttleFish A kinder, gentler start-up event
« on: March 21, 2013, 10:47:26 AM »

May 3,4,5 at Familab

Are you an entrepreneur? Engineer? Or just somebody with a cool idea and want to see where the idea leads you. Cuttlefish is a blending together of enterprising people and ideas into one weekend for the chance to win a large cash prize that will further not only your experience in product/idea development but will provide you with opportunities far into the future.

Idea pitches will begin at 8pm on Friday after which point teams will be formed. Over the course of the weekend the teams will develop their ideas or products as far as possible and will present to a panel of investors Sunday night (who may offer to invest) that will decide the winner of the weekend event based on money making potential and innovation of the idea or product.

Is this Shark Tank, No Way!  More fun, less drama

This will be a Beta version of what we expect to be the first of many CuttleFish events. To be honest, it is too fast, too soon and to demanding an event without your help.

We desperately need volunteers in every capacity. From mentors in every discipline to parking attendants. If you can help or if you want to attempt a project/product, please let us know by registering at http://productcreationguild.com/data/User_add.php

Hi all, We have $1,000 total pledged by a group of 4 individuals including myself. For several reasons, not the least of which developing the skills to create successful KickStarter campaigns, I would like to seek another $1,000 in funding from KickStarter.

I always seem to be my most creative as part of a group, it tends to focus me ( a big task) and would like to have a few people meet to build the campaign this week.

Do you know anyone that has done a KickStarter? Successful or not they can bring insight to our effort. Do you want to learn how yourself? I have seen a lot of projects funded this way you may have a project you would like to launch so the experience could be valuable.

If I can get 3 people to work with me Monday night at 7pm I will do it then. Please respond by email to les@productcreationguild.com to let me know.

Re: CuttleFish A kinder, gentler start-up event SWAG

IF we do the KickStarter project we will need swag. I was wondering if someone could create a cuttlefish replica keyfob for this and estimate the cost.

When Tom gets back from his gaming convention in CA I will talk to him about some t-shirts.

Has anyone got any other ideas?

Just keep in mind the labor and communication requirements for a Kickstarter type thing. It takes a lot of work both pre and post funding. For an event like this I would not suggest soliciting funding through Kickstarter, but instead I'd talk to local businesses and ask for their support in exchange for advertising banners or something to that effect.

From everything I have read you are certainly right about the labor costs involved but I really want to develop the knowledge and figure this is a low dollar attempt to go through it with and a suitable project that can be explained. Have you ever done one yourself, abyssknight?

The lab had one for the laser, but I wasn't involved with setting it up. After a year passed I realized no one had sent the rewards. I personally cut and mailed the keychains out to all the backers. The printed parts we promised were never sent AFAIK. Unless you have people willing to follow through, I would not recommend KS. Just my experience.

I am now recruiting venture capitalists to sit on our judging panel. It is important to let any potential candidate know that while we are not opposed to their possible investment in a project, unlike the TV show Shark Tank, we do not expect them to. Rather, I would like them to use the skills they would use to determine the viability of a project becoming fund-able and offer their judgement of those most likely to succeed in being funded when presented to investors. Additionally any suggestions offered to enhance that likelihood will be very valuable. If you know of anyone who has, in the past or are presently funding ventures, please direct them to our database entry page http://productcreationguild.com/data/User_add.php . Their information won't be abused.

CuttleFish Postponed

Hated to do it but we decided earlier this week to postpone CuttleFish to a later date. We just didn't have enough time to do it well.

My bad.
