Google I/O Extended 2015
« on: March 23, 2015, 10:45:32 AM »
I am planning a I/O Extended event (more or less a viewing party). We need to decide the schedule, if we are doing food, code labs, hackathon, swag? Thoughts? anyone wanna help?

I am assuming we are in or at least can use the new space. Which means we easily have 3 rooms to stream/teach in.

Anyone remember how many streams google has going at any one time?

I'd like to host a hackathon where you win a prize, probably a swag pack, and mentions/feature on FamiLAB social media. Then maybe raffle off the rest of the swag. I will be personally funding the swag (lab money is committed to buildout), if anyone wants to help with that, I can share details about what i'm thinking of purchasing and costs.

Should we continue the hackathon into Saturday morning? Gives people more time when they are not trying to watch a stream, but another overnight for the organizer plus Saturday is a build day. We can easily go till 10am without impacting the build, beyond that we need to talk.

More info: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1rUwLzz3-Hgcs9eu1uph4En1FUCcpTQspw-xpK4Kaoms/pub?start=true&loop=false&delayms=30000

Things to figure out:

  • To hackathon or not
  • Anyone willing to teach/run a class if we can get the material together
  • I can reach out to a code school or something and see if I can get a promo code for a few days access for attendees, then we could base a class on that
  • Schedule
  • Food, Orlando is known for plp RSVP'ing and not showing up. So it become difficult to plan food/catering. Not to mention funds. I'm open to ideas
  • Backup plan in case we are still in the old space

We should be built out by then, no? So Saturday wouldn't be a build day.

I'm all for a hackathon, but I don't know yet if I can commit the time. If I can, I'd be for the hackathon going Friday night into Saturday. I can totally co-fund/help schedule/plan/whatever, though.

True We should be 'built'. I assum we will still be moving and finishing stuff, warehouse, whatnot. But that doesn't mean regular build days anymore. So that will work.

What will we be hacking? Or is this just general hacking?

In general, anything that uses a Google product is fine AFAIK. This is FamiLAB, though, so anything you want works too. :)
