NERDAPALOOZA 2012
« on: July 11, 2012, 04:56:13 PM »
So early in August Nerdapalooza is going down at the Beacham and the Social. They're reaching out to FamiLAB and would like laser cut and etched badges for their VIP supporters. In return, they'd like to include us as a sponsor for the event, put out logo and link on their website, put out logo and name on the poster and put our logo on the screen behind the stage(s).
I'm in talks with John "Hex" Carter (event organizer and general awesome nerdman) right now about design considerations and ideas for the VIP badges. There should be between 20 and 30 badges cut and etched.

I'm also probably going to write up a blog post for Familab.org about the process of collaborating between an awesomesauce hackerspace and a local music event and coming up with a unique reward/identifier for their big fish.

If anybody opposes this, speak now or forever hold your peace.

I am completely and totally not opposed to this idea.  ;)

Also happy to plug via the Orlando Mini Maker Faire facebook if I know the desired messaging.

I'll ask 'em if/what they want to get blasted out to our audience.

Got this email:

"Here are your options for booth space:

We can either put you in a 5x6 with comfy seating in the main area, or a 10x10 in the main lobby with fold up chair seating. I promised 10x10... but it didn't end up being something we can offer to anyone :( Lemme know what FamiLAB prefers bro :)

Any preferences? Also, who wants to display shit one of the nights? I think some lasercut doohickies and maye a 3D printer running would be cool. Maybe some woodworked stuff.

We should be able to show off all sorts of awesomeness with either, right? If we do main lobby will we have less competition for eyeballs?

Do we have artwork for the badges?  Need to get that done ASAP.  We approved a small expenditure of lab funds for materials at last weeks meeting.

I'm guessing main area = loud music and can't discuss much?  Do we want to show off a 3d printer at all?  We can print rave whistles for everyone.

I have the art and acrylic is on the way to my house. I'm waiting on a list of names from Hex for the VIPs, but I have the list of names for the badges we're cutting for the organizers.

If people would like to display things, I'd like to let the organizers know sooner rather than later.

I thought we were getting a booth in exchange for the badges.  So isn't it more about us fulfilling our obligation to staff a booth than it is letting them know we need a booth?  Semantics, perhaps.

What do we think about teaching soldering?  Not the ideal venue for this?  (if we were in the main area)  We have a lot of blinky robot kits!

John, please email treasurer@familab.org with a receipt for the acrylic to get you reimbursed.

Thanks for the heads up on reimbursement.

And out 16bit sponsor package gets us a logo and link on their home page ( http://nerdapalooza.org/ ) a logo on the stage, and the booth. Also, one member gets free admission, and the rest get half price admission for $25.

Teaching soldering might work. The soldering teacher would get the free admission pass. I'll talk to Hex and see if that's a viable option.

There's no booth space left in the lobby area. The 5 by 6 booths are "basically the side booth you see at a club, but with a table added". I'm not a club person, so I'm not sure what this is, but if anyone has ideas for this lemme know. Also, maybe a mass email to see if anyone is going and wants their $25 ticket.

Yeah, I dont think teaching is going to be viable in that environment.  Oh well.

We have lots of flyers & stickers that can be given out for awareness. Ted's audio reactive lights would be cool if allowable, and the 3d printers are always a hit, especially if we could be printing something relevant...
