Bi-Weekly meetup?
« on: April 02, 2012, 06:57:39 PM »
So, our first little FamiLAB RC meet went great! Abyssknight, F00bard, and myself were present, along with my roommate and F00bard's friend.

While it was a bit windy for my roomie's HobbyZone Super Cub, and F00bard's friend's 200-size helicopter, he flew his 400-size chopper just fine, and I ran through a few packs with the 450, even crashed it once, but with no damage other than a couple scratches. We flew the 120SRs around in the lab, and F00bard got a taste of the heli action with them, as well as the mCX2 which Abyssknight provided. I also decided to smash up my roomie's new Stryker, but we glued it back together and it's ready for another crash!

We talked a little on perhaps a bi-weekly meetup where we can show our latest goods, try out other RC toys and maybe even attract some local pros to show us a thing or two! Most of all, just flying our stuff around.

I brought up perhaps finding a local open field to fly in, which I'll do more tonight, as the FamiLAB parking lot, while spacious, has some hazards and isn't good for planes. The one I've been frequenting is in Avalon Park, but that's a bit east. I'll try to find something more central, and if you guys know of anywhere there's a big, open field that's somewhat well-maintained and free of water and power line hazards, we'd love to hear it!

The guy at the hobby store said he flies behind the hospital.  Must be this field? http://g.co/maps/9r399

Blue Jacket Park over near Baldwin Park is pretty huge. I'm bias though, since its near my house. There are some smaller fields in that neighborhood where I've seen a couple guys fly.

Bi-weekly would be perfect for me. Wife works every other Saturday morning, so I'd be able to make it out.

There is also the Sanford Aero Modelers Club near lake jessup on 46. Perhaps they would give us some deal for a group membership. If not, their rates aren't bad at all and they have a nice field.

I see people flying model planes all of the time on the soccer fields behind Winter Springs HS.
