Anybody want to learn us some Erlang?
« on: September 18, 2012, 10:47:35 AM »
I picked up Ejabberd for a project at work and realized that maybe Erlang isn't such an esoteric language after all. I think it's good to experience other languages, to better appreciate the nuances of your own, or better understand the philosophies your language's designers were going for.

Anyway, anybody up for it? Just hanging out, learning some Erlang? Maybe make it talk to arduino, put it on a pi, make it drive an RC car around, or make it chatter like a markov bot?

I'm thinking maybe next weekend, 29th or 30th

Sounds like a good Erlang thing to do. What are some real-time applications?

I've never done anything really real-time, what defines it? I'm reading something about 'deadlines'

Chat tends to be a big first thing to do. Facebook did it, at least.
