What's the best GUI designer for C++?
« on: June 17, 2014, 04:53:21 PM »
One of two huge roadblocks to enjoying learning C++ is the complexity of handcrafting GUIs in Windows. The learning curve is insane, with curve after curve.

What's the best way to make a GUI for my C++ programs? I picked up the Visual Basic method without much trouble, is there any IDE like that?

Are you using Visual Studio? I think you should be able to make a GUI using WinForms in C++ pretty easily.

Not using Visual Studio. I prefer to use conventional C++.

My preferred IDE is Code::Blocks.

if you dislike "visual studio" , i would rather use cbuilder.

although not "c++"

however, i have found C# pretty robust these days.

gnu c on linux is fun too :)

have yet to attempt any gui developement on *nix, as i don't use X.

I like c++ because it's cross platform. Gnu is my compiler also.

To actually answer your question and not convince you to change languages, what I've used is the Cinder library. However, it's pretty heavy on the graphical, and leaves it to you to design the user interface. Good luck man!

I'd recommend WxWidgets if you intend to run the code on non-Windows but frankly, nothing is going to compare with Visual Studio and WinForms or WPF on Windows regardless of which language you opt to use.

netbeans also supports c/c++ & Qt gui support

I tried to get Juce working, but it just wouldn't compile, even after the dev said I satisfied the dependencies.

Decided to try wxWidgets and I'm pretty happy with it. It's got a couple annoying glitches, but works very similarly to Visual Studio.
