Hey there!A quick introduction on myself
I'm Joe, Director of Technology and Product Development for an international training company and I'm also a professional photographer on the side. If you're interested some of my work can be found at joecoulas.com
. I'm a Full Sail University graduate back in 2009 with a degree in Digital Arts and Design, 25 years old and only have a beginners understanding of building electronics. My education on electronics has come from reading books and watching tutorials online so I haven't had anyone really mentor or guide me through advanced building. I am able to solder but I don't know if my technique is as good as it could be, I understand the basics however and generally my connections come out very clean / functional. While I lack some technical skills I do posses extremely strong project management and theory skills as well as an extremely strong passion for learning. I've grown up building and making my own things with the limited tools I've had access to, but it wasn't until recently that I've really wanted to invest some money to see what I could make. Exploring potential and creative problem solving get me excited like you wouldn't believe.
Just a quick little list of my general knowledge:
- Project management
- Graphic design
- Print design
- UI design
- Web development practices (agile development, scrum, etc)
- 3d Modeling (limited)
- Motion graphics
- Wood cutting and working (limited)
- Metal working (limited)
- Audio tech work
My background in designing is clearly the largest and will need to learn some basic programming before I'll actually be able to do much on my own. At the moment however I'm just looking to get more familiar with building electronics as a first step in the right direction. What I'm looking to get out of a personal visit
While I plan on making it to some open house meetings and other open to the public venues I would also like to get to know some of the people outside of an event. Community is extremely important to me, especially ones that focus on keeping a positive attitude rather than an elitist one. Being shown around by a member would be a fantastic way to get introduced to FamiLAB in general and would really mean a lot to get me interested.
I'm currently starting the membership process, so I'm also hopeful that this can show me a little bit more than just attending an event would do. What I'm looking from FamiLAB
Quite simply I want access to tools, resources, and knowledge beyond what I personally have obtained over the years. I am one person and alone am limited by my own time and resources, but in a much larger group space I think I can pull off substantially more complex projects. I also want to share my knowledge and resources with others so I can help improve the overall quality of projects coming from FamiLAB. One of the more unique traits I possess is my uncanny ability to structure project development to keep everything running smoothly. I'm kind of an organizational freak, but you wouldn't know it from how messy I can be. Scheduling time to meet up
So while I live right around the corner from the Longwood Location, I won't be able to make next week's open house due to having our annual manager's meeting which is held in another city. The week after I will be back but there won't be another public event for some time after that. I'm available any day from the 12th on after 5pm and would really appreciate someone being able to show me around!
I know this is a pretty long post but I thought someone might appreciate a bit of background on me! Anyway I look forward to getting to see the facility one way or another.
