Visiting FamiLab from Chicago's Pumping Station: One
« on: December 18, 2013, 12:59:11 PM »
Hi!

I live in Chicago, where I'm on the board at Pumping Station:One, and my significant other and I will be visiting family in the area Dec 19 - 27. We'd like to check out FamiLab, and I'm wondering if anyone might be around to give us a tour and chat. (We like electronics, woodworking, machining, and e-textiles). I graduated from Lyman H.S. way back in '93, so I'm kinda thrilled to see a makerspace has sprouted up in the area.

cheers,
Jesse

Awesome, we love PS1! I'm still working that week, but I think a few of us will be around. What time of day tends to work best for you and the family?

It's hard to say because my family hasn't finalized plans yet. Most likely after lunch or after dinner, I think.

When are people usually around?

There tend to be more people in the evenings, and were it not the holidays, we tend to gather on Tuesdays more. (I'll be out of town, but there should be tons of people still here, and I'm sure some of them will chime in here. :) )

It looks like we're pretty flexible in the evenings. What day is best for you guys?

Tuesday!

Edit: I now realize that that's Christmas Eve. I'll be there Friday afternoon, the 20th, and probably Saturday and Sunday night making some stuff.
I like colors.

I think we'll be able to come by tonight (Saturday) or tomorrow night (Sunday). For sure Sunday if not tonight. We might be in the area--- can we just knock on the door and see if someone is in?

Or... what window of time is good?

We're having our lab holiday party tonight, which is not necessarily... family-friendly. But with that warning, you're more than welcome to come by either day. Just ring the doorbell/come on in.

No one in our party is under 35, so I'm thinking we're ok.

What time is the party?
Should we bring something?

thanks!
J

Hi everyone,
thanks again for your hospitality on Saturday!

I blogged about my visit here. I apologize that I didn't get everyone's full names who appear in the photos. If anyone wants to send me names, I'll be happy to add them.

Happy Holidays!
Jesse

Wow great post! We're glad you could make it out on a night with so many members.

Names are as follows:

David "Pocky" Sikes is the one with the chips in his hands and motorcycle and house.

Lance Vick, Daniel Grove, and Conner Brooks are the ones with the Glass in the trio pic.

Yay, they liked us -- I mean, uhm, thank you for writing a post about us! It was great meeting you all, and I hope I gave a thorough enough tour. Always fun to have visitors from other spaces. :)
