Visiting FamiLab
« on: November 24, 2015, 11:35:07 AM »
Hello,

I was hoping to come visit the Familab space at some point. I am looking to print some 3D versions of creatures I've made with zbrush (stl) at around 28mm - 32+mm size. Are there any printers in the space able to print that small with 'decent' resolution? I am pretty sure the resin/laser printers can do it but are they in the shop?

This is an example of a sculpt I did in zbrush.

Thanks for any help/info!
Greg

Hi there Greg!

I'm Katie the point of contact for 3D Printing here at FamiLab. The lab does not currently have any resin based printers or any that could print that small with such detail. We would still love for you to come by the lab and check out the space though! If you're having difficulty finding a way to have them printed, there is a service called 3D Hubs that could help. The link at the bottom is for hubs in the local area that have resin printers available however there are lots in other parts of the country as well.
If you have any questions about the lab or setting up a good time to visit (like next Tuesday for our monthly open house!), I'm more than happy to help. Just let me know by responding back to this post and I'll get back to you as soon as possible!

Hi Katie,

Thank you very much for the response! I would definitely like to come check out the space but I have no idea when I would be able to. I mainly work in Zbrush making 28-32mm miniatures so I wouldn't want to waste your time. Although I will have to schedule a time when I am free after the holidays to possibly come in as long as I can get out of work. ;)

Thank you!
Greg

Greg,

It's no waste of time, new people are always welcome! For checking out the space, Tuesdays and Thursdays are generally the best time as more people will be at the lab. The first Tuesday of the month is open house where we give tours and answer any questions you have (although we'll do that whenever you have a chance to stop by). And the lab is 24/7 so I'm sure we could find a time that fits in your schedule. :D
